HBO Max is set to significantly expand its international presence with new launches in Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan alongside several European markets such as Albania, Armenia, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Malta.
JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, emphasized the strategic importance of this rollout, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
“These 12 countries will be followed by a few additional markets later this year, and launches in Germany, Italy and the U.K. early next year. Each new market further positions HBO Max as a worldwide destination for the best in entertainment,” Perrette said.
With these additions, HBO Max’s availability will reach 100 markets globally, featuring a wide range of content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, and Max Originals starting this July. The platform’s upcoming lineup includes high-profile releases such as “A Minecraft Movie,” “Harry Potter”, the acclaimed series “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” “The Pitt,” “Peacemaker,” and upcoming titles like “Task” and “IT: Welcome to Derry.”
In addition to entertainment programming, HBO Max will bolster its sports offerings, broadcasting premier events including Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, cycling’s Grand Tours like the Tour de France Femmes, and major winter sports competitions.
This global expansion follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent announcement to split into two publicly traded companies-one dedicated to streaming and content creation, and the other focused on traditional television. This restructuring comes amid financial pressures, including nearly $38 billion in debt, despite the company’s growing audience. In the first quarter of 2025, Warner Bros. Discovery reported 122.3 million streaming subscribers, an increase of 5.3 million from the previous quarter.
