Head of the Department for Social Analysis, Migration and Public Opinion Studies at the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Hamdanov has proposed that a permanent coordination mechanism on transport and transit issues between Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan should be established.
Speaking during the panel session “Regional Security of C6 in Conditions of Global Instability,” Hamdanov emphasized the growing strategic importance of connectivity across Eurasia, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
Central Asia as the Heart, Azerbaijan as the Artery
The Tajik expert said that Central Asia can be seen as the “heart” of Eurasia, while Azerbaijan serves as the main “artery” of the continent, providing the region’s economic potential with access to global markets.
In this context, he highlighted investment in Azerbaijan’s port and railway infrastructure as one of the most promising areas of cooperation.
From Competition to Complementarity
Hamdanov stressed that developing a coordinated strategy would allow Central Asian states and Azerbaijan to act not as competitors, but as complementary elements of a unified transport system.
Such an approach, he noted, could enhance transit efficiency, strengthen regional security, and ensure more resilient supply chains amid global geopolitical uncertainty.
