BYD Set to Localize EV Battery Production in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is preparing to localize the production of batteries for electric vehicles, according to Shavkatbek Alimov, deputy director general of the joint venture BYD Uzbekistan Factory.

Speaking in an interview with Sherzodkhon Kudratkhodja, Alimov emphasized that localization is “a very relevant and important issue,” noting Uzbekistan’s extensive experience in manufacturing automotive components, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The plant has already localized the production of more than 60 types of parts.

He noted that the first stage focused on localizing the full EV production cycle, and the process has now advanced to components. Local companies are already supplying all major parts, including seats, glass, exterior plastic elements, plastic fuel tanks, floor mats, and other interior accessories.

“As a result, we have significantly reduced production costs, increased added value, and shortened delivery times. When a supplier is located nearby, production efficiency increases. From this perspective, localization is very beneficial,” Alimov said.

At the second stage, BYD Uzbekistan Factory plans to localize the production of copper wires. This will involve local suppliers as well as companies within the BYD ecosystem.

In particular, the Chinese company JAH has built a plant in Jizzakh region and is currently producing 28 types of wires. Plans for the first quarter of 2026 include localizing 16 types of rubber components.

“A key strength of BYD is that the company produces many components itself, including batteries, chips, and motors. We plan to gradually bring this to Uzbekistan - it is stipulated in our agreement. As production volumes grow, when the time comes, we plan to localize battery manufacturing as well,” Alimov added.
