The railway networks of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia have been successfully integrated into a multimodal digital platform, establishing a Digital Trade Corridor for nations along the Middle Corridor, according to Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastaev.
Lastaev made the announcement during a ministerial roundtable titled "Sustainable and Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond," which took place as part of COP29 in Baku, The Caspian Post reports.
He highlighted ongoing discussions with Türkiye and European railway authorities to expand the platform’s reach, which was developed by Singapore's PSA company. This platform enables real-time cargo tracking along the corridor.
The deputy minister also shared plans to facilitate data exchange between the terminal operating systems at the ports of Aktau, Kuryk, and Baku by the end of this year.
Lastaev further emphasized that Kazakhstan has already introduced a system for exchanging permit forms for road freight transport with 42 countries. Additionally, a pilot project for electronic permit form exchanges with Uzbekistan has been launched, with the goal of completing the integration of digital permit forms between Kazakhstan and China by the end of 2024. This integration is expected to digitize 60% of all transportation permits.
