Georgian Parliament Recognizes Powers of All 150 Elected MPs

After the recognition of the powers, Georgian MPs present at the session took an oath of allegiance to the country, followed by a rendition of the national anthem.

On Monday, the newly elected Georgian Parliament formally recognized the powers of all 150 members, with 88 votes in favor.

Prior to the voting, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Central Election Commission, introduced results of last month’s general elections to the legislative body and delivered the documents to the Commission of Temporary Mandates for the recognition of the powers of the MPs, the Parliament said, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.

After the recognition of the powers, MPs present at the session took an oath of allegiance to the country, followed by a rendition of the national anthem.

Incumbent Speaker Shalva Papuashvili was nominated to again lead the legislative body, whileMamuka Mdinaradze was reappointed to the post of the leader of the parliamentary majority.

Giorgi Volski will continue to perform the functions of the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, with the majority also nominating Thea Tsulukiani and Nino Tsilosani for vice-speakers.

The newly elected Parliament also formed factions and introduced their chairs.
