Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday announced the party would nominate incumbent Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for reappointment, while Shalva Papuashvili, the current Speaker of the Parliament, would be nominated to continue in the position following the GD’s victory in last month's general elections, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.
Mdinaradze shared the results of the party’s Political Council session, held earlier during the day, revealing that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Honorary Chair of the party, had nominated Kobakhidze for the position, noting his candidacy had been "unanimously supported" by the Council.
The session also discussed budget planning, preparations for the approval of the Government, and the scheduling of Presidential elections, he said.
“The date for the elections will be determined in the coming days, following the first session of Parliament, in accordance with the established timeline”, the MP added.
He further highlighted the party's "ambitious goals" for budgetary initiatives and reiterated its “commitment” to advancing the Government’s political agenda.
