Kyrgyzstan Inks Three Deals at COP29 in Baku

The document was signed by Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev and representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation. The charter is aimed at expanding cooperation in the energy sector and developing green technologies in the region.

Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev, along with executives from power companies, participated in the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), held from November 11-22, 2024, in Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports citing Akipress.

The event was devoted to discussing global commitments in the field of green energy, including the creation of green energy zones and corridors, support for projects under the Paris Agreement, as well as strategies for their successful implementation.

The Minister of Energy presented information on the potential of renewable energy in Kyrgyzstan, including solar, wind and hydropower. He noted the importance of developing and implementing large-scale projects to ensure the country's energy security.

According to the Minister, the average annual duration of sunlight in Kyrgyzstan is 2100-2900 hours, and solar radiation reaches 1700 kW/m².

The potential of the Naryn River and small hydro power plants on 172 rivers is 258 MW, which can provide 5-8 billion kWh of energy.

Wind energy potential is 2 billion kWh.

"We are confident that energy cooperation will become the engine for the development of green energy," Minister Ibraev said.

Bilateral meetings were held between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and a number of countries for the purpose of cooperation in the energy sector, following which the relevant documents were signed:

Clean Energy Charter

The document was signed by Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev and representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation. The charter is aimed at expanding cooperation in the energy sector and developing green technologies in the region.

Agreement with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ)

The agreement on the implementation of the Renewable Energy Sources in Central Asia Project was signed by Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev and the head of the GIZ project Ilka Starrost. This project covers five Central Asian countries and Germany, promoting energy cooperation.

Roadmap for Cooperation with Azerbaijan

The Roadmap was signed by Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibrayev and Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov. The document is based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier in April 2024.

This is a Roadmap for Cooperation in the Energy Sector based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, signed on April 24, 2024 in Baku.
