Strong 5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tajikistan

The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck 23 km ENE of Karakenja, Tajikistan, on Saturday, November 23 at 2:33 pm Biskek time.

The quake had a very shallow depth of 10 km (6 mi) and was felt by many near the epicenter. 

The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this quake and no particular alert was issued.
