Kazakhstan to Receive Major Electricity Supply from Uzbekistan in 2026

Uzbekistan will supply Kazakhstan with 900 million kWh of electricity from March to December 2026, following an agreement reached during bilateral talks in Cholpon-Ata, according to the Kazakh Energy Ministry.

According to the ministry, this supply will help offset power shortages in Kazakhstan’s southern energy region during scheduled maintenance at power plants, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

In addition, a trilateral meeting was held in Cholpon-Ata between the energy and water management authorities of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The sides signed a number of protocols aimed at regulating the water-energy balance in the region.

Under the main document, Kyrgyzstan committed to releasing water from the Toktogul Reservoir in exchange for electricity supplies from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
