Georgia to Reinstate Treason Article in Criminal Code

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party, announced on Monday that an article on treason will be reinstated in the country’s Criminal Code.

In his comments at a press briefing, Mdinaradze said the article had previously been removed from the code by the former United National Movement Government in April 2007, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.

In comments on the article’s removal, he noted the former Government’s move had taken place a year before the August 2008 war between Russia and Georgia broke out.
