Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, said on social media, that the Georgian government has two unchanging primary objectives: restoring the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the welfare of the Georgian people.
According to him, there is no place for political sentiments and illusions in the struggle for territorial integrity. A state and government that does not recognize Georgia’s territorial integrity can never be a friend of the Georgian people, The Caspian Post reports, citing 1TV.ge.
“The Georgian government has two unchanging primary objectives: restoring the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the welfare of the Georgian people. In the struggle for territorial integrity, there is no place for political sentiments and illusions. A state and government that does not recognize Georgia’s territorial integrity can never be a friend of the Georgian people; this is a fundamental truth.
For small states like Georgia, international law has always been the principal weapon and shield; however, the reality is that its place and influence are irreversibly diminishing. What we have been saying has finally been confirmed; the international order established after the Second World War no longer exists.
There is nothing new for us in what was declared in Venezuela today. We saw this long ago and assessed it correctly. This is precisely the historical advantage of ancient nations. For millennia, we have endured similar ‘international orders’, survived more than one geopolitical cataclysm, and found our own path to survival.
It was precisely this knowledge that preserved our statehood when others vanished. Today, our task remains unchanged: not to damage the state in the storm unleashed by great powers and to bring it safely to harbor.
Global events bring another significant consequence for our society; they finally remove masks. As before, this remains the best provocateur of lustration.
In recent days, we have once again witnessed that group of people who first longed for Maidan, then for Nepal, and now for Venezuela. This is that cohort of foreign flag-wavers who have lost all hope of popular support, who cling like ivy to the hope of external forces, and who dream of ‘democracy bombs’ and ‘liberalism missiles’. Those who have been democratically defeated place their hopes in only one scenario for seizing power - coming to authority through external interference and violence.
History has given its name to such unpatriotic, treacherous Georgians - the Liparits, Korghanashvilis, Ordzhonikidzes - whilst society has assigned our contemporary traitors their rightful place.
Finally, the brief, several-minute-long operation conducted in Venezuela has also confirmed that the European Union, once a guarantor of international order and a key global geopolitical actor, no longer exists -and, it seems, may never do so again. Moreover, it has become evident that Brussels will not hesitate to exploit breaches of the world order for its own purposes when it suits them.
Brussels’s actions towards Georgia, in violation of international law, serve as clear proof of this. The international storm that erupted in the very first days of January, which appears to be gathering strength, has only reinforced our commitment to our 2026 plan: to remain steadfast in the pursuit of peace and to avoid becoming entangled in others’ scenarios.
Behind us stands a people who want peace and prosperity in an independent and unified Georgia. Every word and deed of those treacherous Georgians who glorify foreigners only confirms that achieving this goal is possible only for the Georgian Dream, and nothing and no one will divert us from this aim,” writes Shalva Papuashvili.
