Georgia is bracing for severe weather, with forecasters warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding, landslides and mudflows in parts of the country.

Most areas are expected to receive heavy rain on September 1-2, accompanied by possible thunderstorms, hail and strong winds, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.

The National Environment Agency of Georgia said the expected rainfall could cause a significant rise in river water levels.

The agency also warned that the additional precipitation could heighten the risk of landslides and mudflows, particularly in hilly and mountainous areas.

The agency has assessed the associated hazard level as moderate.
