The ongoing war in the Middle East is having spillover effects in Central Asia, raising environmental concerns in neighboring countries.
Mahabat Mavlyanova, a member of the Kyrgyz Parliament, warned that harmful chemicals released into the air during Israeli attacks on Iranian oil refineries could potentially reach Kyrgyzstan as acid rain, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
"Who is monitoring this process, and which areas might be affected by such acid rain?" she asked.
Asel Raimkulova, Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, said that the Hydrometeorological Service is tracking the situation through monitoring stations to assess potential risks and alert the public.
