Azerbaijan is set to send a delegation to Tehran to take part in a farewell ceremony connected to Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The delegation will be led by Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Sahiba Gafarova. The ceremony is expected to take place on July 4-5 at the Grand Mosalla complex in Tehran, after which the remains would be transferred to Qom. A further burial ceremony is said to be planned in Mashhad on July 9, in line with a reported will, The Caspian Post reports via APA.
Ali Khamenei is reported to have died on February 28 as a result of a joint US and Israeli strike on Tehran, together with close members of his family. His successor is said to have been his son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
