The US spent an estimated $40 billion on its military campaign against Iran.
The figure includes the cost of munitions used, military equipment lost, and damage sustained by US bases during the conflict. However, it does not account for operational expenses that had already been incorporated into the Pentagon’s budget for the 2026 fiscal year, The Caspian Post reports via CNN.
Senior adviser of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Mark Cancian said that the largest share of the spending-around $26 billion-went toward munitions. The high cost reflects the extensive use of advanced long-range precision weapons throughout the conflict.
Among the most significant expenditures were Tomahawk cruise missiles. According to the report, the US military fired roughly 1,000 Tomahawk missiles, each costing about $2.5 million.
The analysis also found that the first 100 hours of combat alone cost the US approximately $3.7 billion. As the conflict progressed, daily expenses declined due to a reduction in the frequency of military strikes.
