China says its role in the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran is focused on diplomatic mediation, as Beijing seeks to help reduce escalation and maintain communication with all sides involved in the conflict.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Foreign Minister Wang Yi has been holding phone talks with counterparts from multiple countries, while China’s special envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, is currently visiting several states in the region, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

“As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a sincere friend of Middle Eastern countries, China will not stop its efforts to achieve peace and will continue to stand for fairness and justice,” Guo said.
