The official farewell ceremony for Iran's former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has begun in Tehran, marking the start of several days of nationwide mourning.
Iranian authorities released the first images of Khamenei's coffin as crowds gathered for the ceremony. President Masoud Pezeshkian called on citizens to participate in large numbers in the memorial events, The Caspian Post reports via Tasnim.
According to Iranian officials, delegations from nearly 100 countries are expected to attend the ceremonies, highlighting the international attention surrounding the event.
The farewell proceedings are scheduled to continue through the 9th and will take place not only in several cities across Iran but also in parts of Iraq, reflecting the late leader's influence beyond Iran's borders.
The ceremonies are expected to include official state tributes, public gatherings, and religious commemorations as Iran observes an extended period of national mourning.
