Iran and Armenia have discussed accelerating major cross-border energy projects, including plans for a regional electricity corridor connecting Iran, Armenia, Georgia, and Russia, as the two countries seek to deepen energy cooperation.

Iran's Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi and Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan met in Tehran to review ongoing joint projects and outline future cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via News.am.

The ministers stressed the need to speed up the long-delayed third Iran-Armenia power transmission line, a project that has been under development for more than a decade, and agreed to continue working closely to bring it to completion.

The Iranian side also raised the construction of the Meghri Hydropower Plant, with the Armenian minister reaffirming Yerevan's commitment to the project based on previously reached agreements. Officials also revealed that an Omani company has expressed interest in financing and implementing the hydropower project.

A key focus of the talks was the proposed Iran-Armenia-Georgia-Russia electricity corridor, designed to strengthen regional power connectivity. Tehran also announced its readiness to involve Iranian companies in building the electricity transmission line between Armenia and Georgia.

The meeting additionally addressed environmental cooperation, with Iran's energy minister supporting the establishment of a joint working group to tackle pollution in the Aras River.
