Iran has announced the expulsion of the Australian ambassador from Tehran in response to Australia’s earlier actions.

“In line with diplomatic law and in response to Australia’s actions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has also reduced Australia’s diplomatic presence in the country. The Australian ambassador has left Iran,” Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmail Baqaei said, The Caspian Post informs via Iranian media.

The move comes after Australia expelled the Iranian ambassador on August 26, accusing Tehran of supporting antisemitism. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said national intelligence agencies had linked Iran to attacks on a Sydney restaurant and a Melbourne synagogue, with evidence suggesting Tehran coordinated at least two antisemitic incidents in the country. These findings led the Australian government to expel the Iranian diplomat.
