Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are discussing the future of their cooperation, with both parties recognizing the need to establish a new framework.

“We are currently negotiating how and under what framework our cooperation with the agency should continue. The agency has also acknowledged that new circumstances require a new framework for our collaboration,” Araghchi stated, The Caspian Post reports via Iranian media.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a United Nations organization established in 1957 to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and prevent its use for military purposes. Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, the IAEA provides safeguards, inspections, and technical assistance to member states to ensure compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Its core functions include monitoring nuclear programs, verifying nuclear materials, supporting nuclear safety and security, and facilitating international cooperation in the development of nuclear technology for energy, medicine, and industry.
