Iran criticized the US and Israel on Wednesday for spreading "disinformation" about its nuclear program and ballistic missiles, calling their claims "the repetition of big lies."
"'Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth,' is a law of propaganda coined by Nazi Joseph Goebbels. This is now systematically used by the US administration and the war profiteers encircling it, particularly the genocidal Israeli regime, to serve their sinister disinformation & misinformation campaign against the Nation of Iran," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on the US social media company X, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.
"Whatever they're alleging in regards to Iran's nuclear program, Iran's ballistic missiles, and the number of casualties during January's unrest is simply the repetition of 'big lies,'" Baghaei asserted.
"No one should be fooled by these prominent untruths," he added.
Addressing a gathering of economic activists and trade association representatives in Tehran, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf also warned US President Donald Trump to “not make wrong decisions based on wrong information.”
The top Iranian lawmaker argued that Iran had been attacked while it was engaged in nuclear negotiations with the United States in June last year, accusing Washington of “being in coordination” with Israel. He claimed the outcome was a “disgraceful defeat” for the US and Israel.
The parliament speaker also cited remarks by US envoy Steve Witkoff, who said in an interview with Fox News that Trump was curious why Iran had not “capitulated” despite the significant US military buildup in the region.
“The answer is clear: they do not have proper knowledge, understanding, or perception of the Iranian nation,” Qalibaf, a former presidential candidate, added.
On Tuesday, Trump said that while he prefers a diplomatic solution with Iran, he will not allow Tehran to acquire a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.
"My preference is to solve this problem through diplomacy. But one thing is certain: I will never allow the world's number one sponsor of terror, which they are by far, to have a nuclear weapon. Can't let that happen," Trump said during his 2026 State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress.
The remarks come as a third round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, is scheduled for Thursday in Geneva, where Iran is expected to present a draft proposal.
The two sides first met in Oman on Feb. 6 for indirect negotiations and agreed to continue contacts. Talks later resumed in Geneva on Feb. 17.
The US has increased its military presence in the Persian Gulf region amid threats by Trump of military action against Tehran if current nuclear negotiations fail.
Tehran, for its part, accuses the US administration and Israel of fabricating pretexts for military intervention and regime change and has vowed to respond to any attack, even a limited one. Iranian officials insist that sanctions relief must accompany any agreement to limit the country’s nuclear program.
