Iran has resumed electricity exports to Afghanistan and Pakistan, while also importing power from Armenia and Turkmenistan, according to the head of the state-run power company. This comes despite ongoing domestic supply issues within Iran.

Mostafa Rajabi, CEO of Tavanir, said that Iran is currently exporting 150 megawatts of electricity and importing about 450 megawatts, The Caspian Post reports citing Iranian media.

“Electricity exports to Afghanistan and Pakistan have resumed after domestic demand decreased, and 150 megawatts are now being exported to these two countries,” Rajabi said.

The move comes as many Iranian cities continue to face significant challenges in meeting consumer electricity demand.

Although cooler weather has reduced consumption in major cities by lowering the use of cooling systems, power outages have not been fully resolved.

Iran imports nearly twice the amount of electricity it exports, yet domestic consumers have repeatedly experienced blackouts and power fluctuations.
