Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran plans to eliminate all obstacles hindering the North-South railway project by the end of March.

Pezeshkian emphasized the strong ties between Iran and Russia, noting that numerous agreements are in place and being implemented, The Caspian Post reports via Iranian media.

“Relations between Iran and Russia are solid, and many agreements are concluded and executed. We will remove the barriers by the end of the year [March 20, 2026, in the Iranian calendar] so the desired railway route can be built and operational,” he said.

The project, a joint effort between Moscow and Tehran, involves the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway and is valued at €1.6 billion, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and trade links between the two countries.
