Qatari fighter jets intercepted and shot down Iranian military aircraft that were reportedly just “two minutes” away from striking Al Udeid Air Base - the largest US military installation in the Middle East.
Soviet-era Su-24 tactical bombers operated by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were detected flying toward Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The base typically hosts around 10,000 US troops, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
Armed Aircraft Approaching Key Targets
The Su-24s were carrying bombs and guided munitions and were heading not only toward Al Udeid but also toward the Ras Laffan natural gas processing complex in Qatar. The aircraft reportedly failed to respond to repeated radio calls.
Qatari F-15 fighter jets scrambled and intercepted the incoming planes before they could reach their targets.
Jets Crash Into Qatari Waters
The Iranian aircraft were shot down and crashed into Qatar’s territorial waters. Search operations are now underway to locate the crews.
