Tajikistan–Iran Economic Partnership Gains Momentum with $9M Trade Increase

Trade between Tajikistan and Iran continued to gain momentum in early 2026, with bilateral turnover rising by nearly $9 million compared to the same period last year.

During the first quarter of 2026, trade between the two countries reached $119.6 million, marking an 8% increase year-on-year. The figures were announced at the 18th session of the Tajikistan-Iran Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation held in Dushanbe, The Caspian Post reports via Khovar.

The meeting was co-chaired by Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi. Officials reviewed cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, energy, water resources, industry, transport, investment, science, and technology.

Tajik representatives noted that relations between the two countries have entered a new stage of development, driven by the strong political commitment of both governments to expand cooperation.

Participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the session will pave the way for new joint projects, boost investment opportunities, and further strengthen economic and technological collaboration.

The session concluded with the signing of the Protocol of the 18th Joint Commission, formalizing key agreements and outlining future areas of partnership.
