Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have tested the electronic transit system eTIR system, according to the International Road Transport Union.
During pilot shipments, vehicles were transported from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, while auto parts were delivered in the opposite direction, The Caspian Post reports via Vesti.kg.
Electronic guarantees for the trial operations were provided by the national associations of international road carriers in both countries. The exact timing of the test shipments has not been disclosed.
The eTIR system enables fully digital customs documentation for cross-border cargo transportation between countries that are part of the TIR Convention, significantly simplifying and speeding up border procedures.
The initiative is seen as part of broader regional efforts to modernize logistics and improve transit efficiency across Central Asia.
Earlier, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and several Central Asian states agreed on a unified transit permit format under the TRACECA framework.
