Iran’s proposal to end the war is likely to be accepted by the Trump administration in an effort to ease the growing economic impact that is threatening the global economy, according to a former senior US official.
Trump and his top security advisers are currently reviewing the proposal put forward by Iran, The Caspian Post reports, citing Al Jazeera.
“The top of the agenda has to be reopening the Strait of Hormuz,” Henry S Ensher said.
He noted that the nuclear issue will be “difficult to settle” going forward, but added that it is “easier to get the Strait of Hormuz” resolved.
When asked whether he believes Trump will accept Iran’s proposal, Ensher responded: “I suspect at the end that’s where it will end up … I suspect they’ll put the nuclear negotiations on a different timeframe … The strait is more amenable to a quicker solution.”
He also said that reopening the Hormuz trade route without any conditions would represent a “strategic victory for Iran - no way to soft-pedal that, but I think the Americans will find it necessary to do that given the damage that’s being done to the economy right now”.
