Donald Trump has suggested that the US wants a complete change in Iran’s leadership, revealing that Washington already has several potential candidates in mind who could lead the country in the future.
The U.S. president said his goal is not a long-term reconstruction process but a rapid political transformation in Iran, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
“We want to come in and clean everything up,” Trump said. “We don’t need someone who will rebuild everything for 10 years. We want them to have a good leader. We have several people who I think would do that job very well.”
Trump also indicated that steps are being taken to protect individuals believed to be potential future leaders, suggesting that Washington is monitoring their safety during the ongoing conflict.
“Yes, we are watching them,” he said.
Trump also responded to remarks made by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where the Iranian official said the country was ready for a possible ground invasion by U.S. and Israeli forces.
The U.S. president dismissed the idea as unnecessary.
“That’s a waste of time,” Trump said, adding that a ground invasion is not currently under consideration.
Trump noted that Iran has already suffered major losses in the conflict.
“They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their fleet. They’ve lost everything they could lose,” he said, emphasizing that the pace and intensity of military strikes will continue.
