U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet decided whether to deploy American forces into Iran to seize the country’s nuclear material, a move considered highly risky, according to sources familiar with the matter, The Caspian Post reports, citing CBS News.
In private discussions, Trump has told close associates that he still has “a lot of decisions to make,” as he weighs possible next steps.
The Pentagon has reportedly developed several options for the president as the conflict involving Iran continues.
Following U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites last summer, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it could not account for approximately 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium that Iran possessed prior to the attacks.
While Trump believes Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened - with its navy and air force largely neutralized - he remains concerned about Tehran’s ability to deploy naval mines.
According to the sources, he fears Iran could disrupt global oil shipments in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that such mine-laying operations require only a small number of personnel.
