Governor of the East Kazakhstan region Nurymbet Saktaganov has paid a working visit to Zaisan district to inspect major infrastructure and social projects and hold meetings with local representative body members.
The trip focused on long-term development priorities, identifying real growth drivers and improving the quality of life for residents, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
One of the key stops was the construction site of a new airport in Satpay village, being built on the instructions of the president. The project is designed and implemented by Kazaeronavigatsia republican state enterprise, with Elkhon LLP acting as the general contractor.
The future airport will feature a 2,200-meter runway, a 4,000-square-meter passenger terminal, taxiways, an apron for four aircraft, a command and control center, security and meteorological services, as well as modern radio-navigation systems. Once operational, it is expected to open international flights to Urumqi, China’s Altay district, and Kanas Lake, along with domestic routes to Astana, Almaty, and Oskemen. The airport will be able to serve aircraft such as the Bombardier Q400 and ATR-72 and is part of a broader program to develop air hubs in resort areas, including Katon-Karagai and Kendirli.
During a meeting with district representative body members, Saktaganov emphasized Zaisan’s strategic importance. The completion of the Kalbatau-Maikapchagai national highway and the modernization of the customs checkpoint could turn the district into a major transit hub. He also pointed to strong potential in agriculture, industry, and tourism as key sources of jobs and sustainable economic growth.
In Ainabulak village, the governor visited a newly built sports module designed as a modern, multifunctional space for mass sports. The single-story facility includes a large hangar-type hall and an administrative block and can host various sports disciplines, including wrestling, serving up to 84 people daily. Beyond sports, the complex is expected to function as a social center for children and young people.
The working trip also included Zharsu village, where a new sports facility is being built at the local school. The project aims to strengthen physical education, support sports clubs and competitions, and ensure children have access to year-round athletic activities, making sport a natural part of rural life.
