Kazakhstan has officially ratified a major economic partnership agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the United Arab Emirates, paving the way for easier access for Kazakh goods to the UAE market.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the ratification law on July 8, 2026, approving the agreement that was signed in Minsk on June 27, 2025, The Caspian Post reports via ProSud.kz.
The deal eliminates import customs duties on more than 85% of traded goods, significantly expanding export opportunities for Kazakhstan and other EAEU member states.
Under the agreement, the UAE will grant preferential access to 6,757 product categories, representing 86% of its tariff schedule. Import duties will be completely removed for 6,565 product categories, while 192 additional categories will benefit from duty-free tariff quotas for imports from EAEU countries.
The agreement also establishes comprehensive rules governing:
Rules of origin for goods;
Customs cooperation;
Trade safeguard measures;
Technical barriers to trade;
Sanitary and phytosanitary standards;
Intellectual property protection; and
Other key aspects of bilateral trade.
The document also includes transitional periods for certain sectors and excludes a limited number of sensitive products from the free trade regime.
The law will enter into force on July 20, completing Kazakhstan's ratification process after approval by the Mazhilis (parliament) in June and the Senate on June 25.
