Kazakhstan Convicts 19 in Summer Terrorism, Extremism Crackdown

Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee has released the results of its counterterrorism efforts for the summer of 2026, highlighting a series of convictions and ongoing investigations related to terrorism and extremism.

Some 19 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment between June and August 2026 for terrorism- and extremism-related crimes, according to KazTag.

Those convicted were involved in offenses including terrorist propaganda, incitement of religious hatred, distribution of prohibited materials online and within their communities, and participation in the activities of an extremist organization.

The pre-trial investigations are currently continuing under the relevant articles of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code.
