The Kazakh Foreign Ministry stated that mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan rose by 7.4 per cent in 2024 to reach $1.3 billion.
Kazakhstan is prepared to boost exports to Tajikistan across 85 product categories, worth up to $200 million, Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Kuantyrov said during talks with Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, in Astana, The Caspian Post reports per Tajik media.
The meeting, part of the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, focused on deepening economic ties.
Kuantyrov cited growing trade volumes, business readiness for cooperation, and mutual understanding at the leadership level as strong foundations for future growth, expressing confidence that investment projects would expand alongside trade.
Kazakhstan remains one of Tajikistan’s key economic partners, with both presidents setting a target to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion. Transport cooperation is also gaining momentum: in 2024, rail freight volumes rose by 8 per cent to 5.1 million tons, while the first half of 2025 saw a 12.1 per cent increase to 2.7 million tons. Road freight surged 45 per cent to 494,000 tons last year, and opportunities are emerging for Kazakhstan to supply railway equipment to Tajikistan.
Kuantyrov invited Tajik representatives to attend the Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable (KGIR) on October 31, while Rahimzoda invited Kazakh counterparts to the investment forum in Dushanbe the same month. Rahimzoda emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening trade and investment ties, given the high level of trust and stable economic growth between the two countries.
The sides discussed joint investment projects in free and special economic zones, including flour and confectionery production, vegetable oil, livestock processing, and natural juice and concentrate manufacturing. Cooperation will also prioritize industry, logistics, agro-processing, and energy. Kazakhstan ranks among Tajikistan’s top four foreign investors, with total investments exceeding $146 million.
