Kazakhstan is looking to expand cooperation with Germany’s Bavaria in microelectronics and semiconductor technologies, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the Kazakhstan-Bavaria Technology Forum.
Tokayev highlighted Bavaria’s position as one of Europe’s leading semiconductor and microelectronics hubs, with major companies including Infineon Technologies, Siltronic and Rohde & Schwarz forming part of its technology ecosystem, according to Qazinform.
“For Kazakhstan, a realistic starting point is not large-scale chip manufacturing, but those parts of the value chain that directly support our industrial development. Energy, mining, metallurgy, transport and manufacturing increasingly depend on power electronics, sensors, measurement systems and sophisticated automated controls,” Tokayev said.
The Kazakh president proposed launching a dedicated partnership program with the Bavarian Chips Alliance. The initiative would bring together Kazakh companies, research institutions and development organizations with businesses and institutions from Bavaria’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Tokayev also stressed the importance of reliable transport and logistics links in bringing new production facilities to international markets.
He proposed that Bavarian companies and Kazakh partners jointly develop industrial and logistics hubs along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor.
The initiative could connect cooperation in advanced manufacturing with Kazakhstan’s growing role as a transit and logistics hub between Asia and Europe.
