Kazakhstan Approves New Travel Rules with Armenia

The Kazakh parliament has officially ratified the Agreement between Kazakhstan and Armenia on the travel and stay of citizens.

Under the new rules, Armenian citizens visiting Kazakhstan will be required to register with local internal affairs departments after 30 days, down from the previous 90-day period without registration, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov noted that this change is intended to improve migration control efficiency.

Since the beginning of 2025, nearly 12,000 Armenian nationals have traveled to Kazakhstan. The agreement also provides the option for stays exceeding 90 days, in accordance with national legislation, through the issuance of a temporary residence permit.

The entry requirements under the agreement specify that Armenian citizens may enter Kazakhstan using an identification card, equivalent to Kazakhstan’s identity card, while Kazakh citizens can use their identity card, passport (including service and diplomatic), seaman’s identity card, or certificate for return.

Armenia ratified the agreement on November 15, 2024. This move follows the Majilis’s earlier ratification of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan allied relations treaty.
