Kazakhstan Among Top Peaceful Nations in Central Asia

Kazakhstan has climbed the ranks in the latest Global Peace Index, released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The country now holds the 56th position out of 163 countries and territories, improving by five places compared to last year, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

In the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region, Kazakhstan ranked third, following Bulgaria and Romania, and surpassed all its neighbors, including Armenia (58th), Uzbekistan (67th), Kyrgyzstan (78th), Tajikistan (79th), and Turkmenistan (87th).

The country’s score of 1.875 points reflects progress in multiple areas, notably in safety and perceptions of crime. Despite a global trend toward increased militarization, Kazakhstan maintained relative stability, contributing positively to its improved ranking.

Globally, however, peace levels have declined, with the average peacefulness dropping by 0.36 per cent, marking the sixth consecutive annual decline. In 2025, 74 countries improved their rankings, while 87 saw their scores worsen. Iceland remains the world’s most peaceful country.

The report emphasizes that strengthening “Positive Peace”-including robust institutions, social trust, and cohesive communities-is essential for further national progress.

Separately, Azerbaijan and Armenia have officially published the text of their initialed peace agreement.
