Kazakhstan, Italy Explore Military Cooperation Prospects

A Kazakh delegation, headed by Defense Minister Ruslan Zhakssylykov, visited Italy’s Ministry of Defense and various military facilities.

During the visit, General Colonel Zhakssylykov met with Italy’s Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto. They discussed key areas of bilateral military cooperation, including military education, combat training, and peacekeeping efforts, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazinform.

General Colonel Zhakssylykov emphasized the importance of peacekeeping for Kazakhstan on the international stage. He highlighted the significant role of Kazakhstani officers participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, as part of the Italian contingent, showcasing successful cooperation.

The talks concluded with the signing of a memorandum on academic cooperation and scientific research, paving the way for new opportunities to collaborate between the National Defense University of Kazakhstan and the Center for Higher Defense Studies of the Italian Armed Forces General Staff.

As part of the visit, the delegation also toured the Pratica di Mare Naval Air Base and the Italian Air Force’s military airport, where representatives from the leading Italian corporation Leonardo showcased combat helicopters and software tools for the C4I automated troop management system.

The Kazakhstani delegation also visited the 'L' Aquila' mountain training base, situated 119 km from Rome, where they were briefed on the infrastructure, equipment, and training program of the Italian Army's Alpine Regiment.
