The Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office has begun examining information linked to the so-called “Epstein files”.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Akorda Presidential Palace by Prosecutor General Berik Asylov, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Parliamentary Inquiry Triggers Review
The probe was initiated following a formal request from MP Askhat Rakhimzhanov, who asked the Prosecutor General and the National Security Committee to verify potential contacts between Kazakh high-ranking officials and convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein.
In particular, the inquiry mentioned former Prime Minister and ex-head of the National Security Committee Karim Massimov, who is currently serving a sentence on charges of treason and attempted seizure of power. Rakhimzhanov said that Massimov’s name appears at least eight times in the records associated with the “Epstein files,” suggesting possible personal acquaintance.
Authorities Studying Publications and Facts
Asylov confirmed that a preliminary review is already underway. Officials are analyzing available publications and materials to determine whether Epstein ever visited Kazakhstan and whether he had any contact with Kazakh officials.
While no additional names or details have been disclosed, authorities say the review will be conducted thoroughly and in full, underscoring the sensitivity and public significance of the matter.
