Police in Kazakhstan have detained a suspect after bags containing the dismembered remains of a woman were discovered at a waste collection site in Ekibastuz.

The discovery was made on July 24 near garbage containers on Mukhtar Auezov Street, The Caspian Post reports via Orda.kz.

According to eyewitnesses, the remains were found inside several bags at the site.

Police confirmed that a murder investigation has been opened and that a suspect has already been detained and placed in temporary custody.

“The circumstances and reasons for what happened are being established,” police said.

Investigators are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the events that led to the discovery of her remains.
