Kazakhstan Sees Bright Future in Renewables with 6.81% Share in Early 2025

Renewable energy sources (RES) accounted for 6.81 per cent of Kazakhstan’s total electricity production in the first half of 2025.

Between January and June, renewable power plants across the nation generated approximately 4.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Wind energy remained the dominant contributor, producing 2.6 million kWh-more than 60 per cent of the total renewable output. Solar power plants followed with over one million kWh, while small hydropower stations contributed 572,000 kWh. Bioenergy facilities added a further 1.39 million kWh to the mix.

By the end of June, Kazakhstan’s total installed capacity for renewable energy reached 3,122.12 megawatts (MW). Wind farms comprised the largest share with 1,570.05 MW, followed by solar power plants at 1,262.61 MW. Small hydropower stations accounted for 287.69 MW, and bioenergy facilities rounded out the total with 1.77 MW.
