Kazakhstan is set to enhance its rail travel experience with the purchase of 175 new passenger cars, scheduled for delivery by the end of this year.
Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar noted at a recent briefing that Kazakhstan is advancing rapidly in the modernization and expansion of its transport infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Sklyar detailed several key railway projects in progress, including the imminent completion of the Dostyq-Moiynty and Almaty railway bypasses. New rail lines such as Moiynty-Kyzylzhar and Darbaza-Maktaaral are set to open next year, while the Bakhty-Ayagoz section is planned for completion by 2027. To improve passenger experience, 175 new passenger rail cars will be acquired by the end of this year.
In the aviation sector, Kazakhstan is expanding air hubs and increasing air cargo handling capabilities through airport infrastructure upgrades, streamlined customs processes, and adoption of digital technologies. Construction has begun on airports in key resort regions, including Zaisan, Katon-Karagai, and Kendirli.
Road infrastructure is also a priority, with 12,000 kilometers of roads currently under construction or repair nationwide, and 7,000 kilometers expected to be completed by year-end.
These initiatives support President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s long-term plan to reconstruct 11,000 kilometers of existing railways and add 5,000 kilometers of new track by 2029. This year alone, 830 kilometers of new railway on the Dostyk-Moiynty section will be commissioned-two years ahead of schedule-boosting the route’s carrying capacity fivefold.
