The Kazakh government has approved a draft technical agreement with Türkiye to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The agreement clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of both countries. Under the new arrangement, Kazakh military personnel will be deployed alongside staff officers on naval vessels assigned to the UNIFIL mission, The Caspian Post reports per Kazakh media.
Kazakh troops participating in the peacekeeping operation will serve six-month rotations, with personnel changes occurring twice a year, in April and October. Before each rotation, Kazakh forces will travel to the Port of Mersin in Türkiye to board the designated military ship.
The Kazakh contingent will strictly follow all United Nations requirements and directives applicable within the UNIFIL area of operations.
The agreement comes into force immediately upon its signing, marking a significant step in Kazakhstan-Türkiye defense cooperation.
This agreement follows a recent round of diplomatic collaboration, during which the two countries signed 18 intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents to further deepen bilateral ties.
