Kazakhstan is in the final stages of developing a new design for its national passport.
The initiative, which began in February 2025, involves top designers from the National Bank and specialists from the Banknote Factory, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
State Counselor Yerlan Karin shared details of the project in a recent Instagram post, noting that the new passport will meet international standards and feature a modern, minimalist design. It will include advanced anti-counterfeiting elements and background imagery on visa pages that highlight Kazakhstan’s cultural diversity and iconic landmarks.
“The concept is meant to reflect our national identity and rich heritage while ensuring the highest level of document security,” Karin stated.
Kazakhstan's current passport design has been in use for 17 years. The new version will gradually replace it as passports expire, become damaged, or are requested by citizens. Authorities have confirmed that the cost of passport issuance will not change.
In the meantime, since July 2025, Kazakh citizens have already begun receiving passports enhanced with additional security features.
Kazakhstan has also seen an improvement in its position on the Henley & Partners Passport Index, which ranks countries based on the travel freedom of their citizens. The upgraded passport is expected to further support the country's international standing.
A formal presentation of the new passport design is anticipated in the coming weeks.
