Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have reviewed the current status and future prospects of their strategic partnership between JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) and JSC Uzbekneftegaz (UNG).
The discussions took place in a meeting between Askhat Khassenov, CEO of KazMunayGas, and Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Key areas of focus included geological exploration, oil and gas extraction, processing, petrochemical development, digitalization, and industrial safety.
Khassenov emphasized that, with support from the presidents of both countries, the collaboration between the Kazakh and Uzbek companies continues to advance steadily and is taking on a strategic dimension. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the cooperation agreement signed in March 2025.
KMG and UNG are exploring opportunities for joint geological exploration and petrochemical projects across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and a dedicated working group has been established to oversee these initiatives.
Special attention was given to the petrochemical sector, including plans to launch a linear alkyl benzene production project. Both sides see significant potential for joint polymer processing and the supply of finished products, aiming to develop an integrated regional market.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to expand collaboration across all key sectors, signaling a deepening of energy and industrial ties between the two countries.
Earlier this year, KazMunayGas reported a 9 per cent increase in oil production, reflecting robust growth in Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
