Reasons Behind King of Jordan’s Trip to Kazakhstan

His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan will pay an official visit to Kazakhstan on August 26-27 at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, marking a significant step in the development of bilateral relations.

In Astana, King Abdullah II will meet with President Tokayev to strengthen the comprehensive partnership, broaden political dialogue, and give practical effect to agreements reached during Tokayev’s visit to Amman in February 2025, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The discussions will cover trade, investment, energy, agriculture and food security, pharmaceuticals, IT and digitalization, transport logistics, tourism, as well as humanitarian and educational cooperation. The leaders will also address international and regional security issues, including the Middle East peace process, and coordinate efforts within international organizations.

A central event of the visit will be the Kazakhstan-Jordan business forum in Astana, which is expected to gather around 300 entrepreneurs and investors, with the participation of both heads of state.

February Agreements as the Foundation

Tokayev’s visit to Jordan in February 2025 laid the foundation for the current momentum in bilateral cooperation. At that time, both sides agreed to expand economic ties, create new conditions for trade and investment, and launch several joint projects.

The Jordanian Embassy in Kazakhstan emphasized that the February agreements set the pace for today’s initiatives. “Leaders’ visits have demonstrated the readiness of both countries to deepen cooperation and create favorable conditions for joint projects,” the Embassy stated.

Joint Projects in Key Sectors

Agriculture: A working group was formed between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Jordan’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to supply Kazakh wheat to Jordan, with the Food Corporation identified as the main supplier. In addition, Jordan’s Aljazeera Agricultural is preparing to sign a memorandum with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture on establishing a pedigree poultry reproducer.

Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare: Jordan’s Sana Pharma and other companies are seeking entry into the Kazakh market. An agreement on medicine distribution has been reached between Sana Farm (Jordan) and Inkar Group (Kazakhstan), expected to be signed during the business forum. Furthermore, DadVet (Jordan) and KazbioPharm (Kazakhstan) have agreed to cooperate on the export of veterinary vaccines.

Digitalization & Education: Memoranda are being implemented between Astana Hub and King Hussein Business Park, and between Astana IT University and Hussein Technical University. The first Jordanian students are already studying in Astana. Cooperation has also been established between Kazakhstan’s National Information Technologies JSC (NIT) and Jordan’s ICT Association Intaj.

Energy: In February, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy and Jordan’s Atomic Energy Commission.

Construction & Investment: Kazakhstan’s BI Construction Group is preparing agreements with Amman Vision Investment & Development (AVID) and the Jordan Security Investment Fund on infrastructure and urban development projects.

Direct Air Link Planned

Establishing a direct flight connection between Kazakhstan and Jordan remains a priority. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan confirmed that the legal framework is already in place.

Direct flights on the Amman-Astana route are expected to launch in June 2026, operating twice a week. The Jordanian side has pledged to subsidize the flights during the initial phase to ensure stability and passenger demand.

“The opening of air travel will create new conditions for the development of tourism, business, and humanitarian ties between the two countries,” the Jordanian diplomatic mission highlighted.

Outlook

King Abdullah II’s upcoming visit is seen as an important milestone in bilateral relations. Since February 2025, cooperation has advanced with concrete projects in energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and digitalization, while new priorities include direct flights and deeper collaboration in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The Astana talks are expected to reaffirm the comprehensive nature of relations between Kazakhstan and Jordan and pave the way for new opportunities in partnership.
