September Snow Transforms East Kazakhstan Mountains into Winter Wonderland

Residents of East Kazakhstan have experienced an unusual September weather event as snow recently covered the mountains in the Katon-Karagay district.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Burkhat Pass has remained coated in a pristine layer of snow for several days, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“About three to four centimeters of snow fell, settling on the Sarymsakty and Tarbagatai ridges. Although snow in September isn’t uncommon for our region, tourists are often surprised to find themselves in a ‘winter wonderland’ following warm autumn days,” said Aidar Yelubayev, deputy director of a local company.

Katon-Karagay National Park is known for its sharp temperature variations and diverse landscapes. Tour operators highlight that autumn in the area frequently combines golden foliage with snow-covered peaks, making it a particularly popular destination for mountain excursions.
