Three Mountaineers Go Missing in Kazakhstan, One Found Dead

Three mountaineers have been reported missing in the mountains of Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region, with the body of one of them later found.

The report about missing people was filed on December 26 by the sister of one of the climbers, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

According to her statement, the man and two friends set out for the mountains on the morning of December 24 and failed to return. Their mobile phones had been switched off for more than 12 hours, raising concerns.

“After receiving the report, emergency services mobilized personnel and equipment to the presumed search area. An operational headquarters was deployed on site, and an Emergency Ministry helicopter was also involved in the search and rescue operation,” the Almaty Department for Emergency Situations said.

Later, search teams discovered the body of one of the missing men in the mountains. The body was found near Lokomotiv Peak at an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level, after which it was brought down and handed over to police. A forensic medical examination has been ordered, while search efforts for the remaining two climbers are ongoing.
