Kyrgyz Parliament Approves EBRD-Funded Osh Water Project

At today’s session of Kyrgyzstan’s Jogorku Kenesh, deputies approved in the second reading the bill “On the ratification of the loan and grant agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Osh wastewater treatment plant expansion project.”

The bill provides for the modernization of the first complex of wastewater treatment plants in Osh, built in 1965, by increasing their production capacity and installing new, modern, and efficient equipment, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kabar.

Financing for the project amounts to €8.3 million, including a €4 million loan from the EBRD for 15 years, including a four-year grace period, with interest rate of 1% per annum plus six months of Euribor. The project is scheduled for three years.

During the discussion, Deputy Dastanbek Dzhumabekov requested attention to the modernization of wastewater treatment facilities in Bakai-Ata, Aitmatov, and Manas districts of the Talas oblast.

Deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov raised the issue of ensuring access to drinking water in several villages in Kara-Kulja district.

Deputy Makhabat Mavlyanova emphasized that in Kyzyl-Kiya, drinking water is supplied for only two hours a day, asking about the implementation of the water supply project.
