Kyrgyz President Arrives in Kazakhstan for Eurasian Economic Forum

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has arrived in Astana to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum, as Kazakhstan’s capital hosts a series of high-level regional meetings focused on economic integration and strategic cooperation.

The leader of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member state is set to attend the forum’s plenary session, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Among the participants are Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Astana is also preparing to host a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on May 29, bringing together the leaders of the EAEU member states to discuss key regional economic and political issues.

Japarov’s visit comes amid intensified diplomatic activity in the Kazakh capital. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Astana on a state visit at the invitation of President Tokayev.

A solemn welcoming ceremony for Putin was held at the Palace of Independence, followed by both restricted and expanded-format talks between the Kazakh and Russian leaders.

The negotiations resulted in the signing of several bilateral agreements covering strategic sectors.
