Kyrgyz President Proposes UN Role in Major Global Mountain Summit - VIDEO

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in Bishkek, outlining his country’s priorities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Guterres arrived in Kyrgyzstan to attend the SCO Plus summit and the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games. During their meeting, the two sides discussed key international issues and prospects for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United Nations, according to Sputnik Kyrgyzstan.

Japarov identified several key priorities for the country’s work on the UN Security Council.

They include:

strengthening international peace and security;

increasing the role of small and developing states in global decision-making;

coordinating international efforts to address climate challenges;

promoting solutions to issues facing mountain regions.

The Kyrgyz leader also proposed that the United Nations co-organize the Global Mountain Summit “Bishkek + 25.”
